Product detailed description
3DXSTAT™ ESD PVDF 3D Printing Filament
PVDF [Polyvinylidene fluoride] is a high-performance polymer which offers exceptional thermal and chemical resistances.
Rated for uses up to 150°C – this filament can be used in demanding applications under the most extreme conditions. PVDF is resistant to most chemicals and solvents, making it a great fit for applications which will be exposed to harsh environments.
We start with premium Arkema Kynar® PVDF resin and then compound according to a proprietary formulation of specialty carbon additives, giving you a filament with excellent printing characteristics and consistent ESD properties.
Benefits of PVDF include:
- High Thermal Properties: 150°C CUT
- Excellent resistance to a broad range of chemicals, such as automotive fluids, oils, gas, lubricants, fully halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, acids, and bases
- Non-hygroscopic, does not absorb moisture. No drying needed!
- Inherently UV-resistant with very stable H-F bonds.
- Low smoke and flame characteristics with a base resin rated V-0
- Long-term hydrolytic stability
- Resistant to nuclear radiation
- Very good abrasion resistance – similar to Nylon and UHMW-PE for high-wear applications
Benefits of 3DXSTAT™ include:
- ESD-Safe with a 10^6 to 10^9 ohm surface resistivity on 3D printed sample created using concentric ring test method
- Consistent surface resistivity
- Improved retention of impact & elongation
- Low particulate contamination
- Minimal contribution to outgassing and ionic contamination
Typical ESD PVDF applications include:
- Semi-con: HDD Components, Wafer Handling, Jigs, Casings, & Connectors
- Industrial: Conveying, Metering, and Sensing applications
Target conductivity for 3DXSTAT™ ESD PVDF:
- 10^6 to 10^9 ohm surface resistivity on 3DP sample using concentric ring test method.
- Note: Internal studies have indicated that increased extruder temperatures can achieve higher levels of conductivity. Likewise, lower extruder temperatures have resulted in lower levels of conductivity. Each printer is set up differently, as well as varied printed part geometries. Therefore, expect some trial time to understand how this filament works with your specific printer and in the context of your specific application.
Surface conductivity as a function of extruder temperature:
The surface resistance of the printed ESD-safe part will vary depending on the printer’s extruder temperature. For example, if your testing indicates the part is too insulative, increasing the extruder temperature will result in improved conductivity.
Therefore, the surface resistance can be ‘dialed in’ by adjusting the extruder temperature up or down depending on the reading you receive on your part.
Filament Specifications:
1.75mm and 2.85mm +/- 0.05mm in diameter
Recommended Print Settings:
- Extruder: Between 250 and 270°C depending on your printer. Some need to get as high as 280°C.
- Platform Temp: 90 – 110°C
- Platform Prep: Nano Polymer Adhesive gives us the best results.
- Other: No or very slow cooling fan. Print speeds of 40-60mm/s as a good starting point.
- Drying Instructions: ESD PVDF doesn’t absorb moisture, and doesn’t need drying!
- Safety note: This polymer starts to degrade at temps above 290°C. Please keep your extruder temperature below this point to avoid degradation, offgassing, and mechanical property loss.
